Together we can lead a tika (just) transition.

The Funders' Commitment on Climate Action is a collaborative initiative committed to enabling collective leadership across Aotearoa’s funding community. We aim to build understanding of climate challenges and opportunities, and support a coordinated, inclusive response to climate change that enables the aspirations of iwi, hapū / Māori.

What we do

We offer a convening platform and shared learning journey incorporating a holistic reporting framework, helping signatories bridge the gap between intent and action and drive progress annually. It enables signatories to consider and articulate both the financial and non-financial impacts of their decision making.

Our purpose

We exist to enable collective leadership across Aotearoa's funding comunity, building understanding of climate challenges and opportunities, and mobilising coordinated action.

Together, we aim to accelerate a just/tika transition to a low emissions future, in collaboration with iwi, hapū/Māori through our 7 commitments.

Supporting a just transition for Aotearoa

We are living through a period of profound change, a transition. The challenges we face are complex, interconnected, and systemic. Climate change is already affecting communities, economies, ecosystems, and the work of every funder.

Yet globally, action remains well short of what is needed. There is nothing inevitable about this transition being fair. Without deliberate action, the costs and benefits are not being shared equally, and existing social, economic, and environmental inequities may be exacerbated. FCCA exists to bring funders together to share knowledge, test ideas, and build the relationships and conditions needed for meaningful, long term change.

Our role is to support a transition that is not only low carbon and resilient, but also just, grounded in tika, fairness, participation, and care for people, communities, and the environment.

This is not a passive network. It is a space for contribution, collaboration, and collective responsibility.

Ki te kotahi te kākaho, ka whati;

ki te kāpuia, e kore e whati.

When reeds stand alone they are vulnerable;

but together they are unbreakable.

- Kingi Pōtatau Te Wherowhero Tāwhiao

Stronger, Together

Aligning philanthropy, investment, and influence across seven core commitments, the FCCA supports and integrates climate positive practice through five levers: governance, strategy, operations, investments, and grantmaking.

Our collaborative community builds shared purpose into collective knowledge and action, informing better decision-making, and more transparent reporting.

Let's shape climate action together.

Commit and share resources

We will take opportunities to contribute to and support mitigation and adaptation to climate change impacts. We will commit resources to accelerate work addressing the causes and impacts of climate change and identify opportunities to co-fund initiatives.

Aotearoa’s Funders Commitment on Climate Action is part of a growing international movement; Our Commitment draws on international examples, but is grounded in the unique context of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Please join us in this collaborative effort.
